13 Ways to Cut Down Weight After 40

Slide 1 - Fruits and vegetables

Fill half the plate of your every meal with fruits and vegetables. It is recommended to have five different vegetables (colours). Produce tends to have more nutrients and less fat and calories than meat, dairy products, or grains.


Slide 2 - Age

Changes in your body occurs everyday more so if you are above 40. At this age, it is easier to gain weight rather than to lose it.


Slide 3 - Do not skip or avoid breakfast

Have breakfast like a KING and make all attempts as not to either skip or avoid it. Some breakfast suggestions include oatmeal or whole wheat toast with fruits (such as raisins or berries) will help to curb that mid-morning hunger.


Slide 4 - Dinner or Night Snacks

It is suggested that dinner is eaten between 6.00 - 7.00pm. However if you must, choose your meals wisely and definitely night snacks is not recommended.


Slide 5 - Cook healthy meals

Stock up on vegetables and other produce. Choose high protein meat such as fish. Instead of frying or cooking it with butter, try boiling, broiling and grilling. You can do it with your kids over the weekend and teach them the importance of nutritious meals.


Slide 6 - Count your calories

Sometimes I do over indulge especially when I visit my mother. There are many apps in the market. Choose the one suitable for you.


Slide 7 - Fizzy drinks

Fizzy drinks contain high amount of sugar. The excess sugar not only contributes to the extra fat but also increases the sugar level which is detrimental to those who have diabetes.


Slide 8 - Alcohol

My suggestion is to avoid it as much as you can. If you need to drink, practise safety and lessen its consumption.


Slide 9 - Find time to exercise

It is understandable that at this age, you are busy with your daily undertakings at work. Even if you spend 4 minutes a day to do a physical activity or physical exercise, it will help you keep the weight down. Over the weekend, make it a family time and have fun with it.


Slide 10 - Build muscles

Incorporate into your trainings some weight training. Experts had shown that with more muscles, you can actually decreasing fat. It is still possible to look good after 40.


Slide 11 - Relax and avoid stress

A little bit of stress is good for you. However, when it affects your relationship with your co-worker, friends, siblings, family or spouse, then it is time to seek help. Some stress management tips include meditation, breathing techniques and some exercises such as yoga as well as pilates.


Slide 12 - Sleep

On average, it is important that you have 6- 7 hours of sleep. It is suggested that you leave your gadgets outside or out of your reach especially during the times of sleep. Set the room to a suitable temperature and sleep.


Slide 13 - Have a support group

Find friends (or your spouse) if they are embarking on their weight loss journey. Listen to their trials and celebrate with them every milestones that they reach. Support wholeheartedly and if you are being supported, be open to all ideas.
