Acts of Kindness Can Ease Social Anxiety

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it would be a good time for some personal reflection. It is not about those who are irresponsible with their ways of not self quarantining themselves when they are sick. It is not about those who went on a panic buy and purchase everything on the supermarket shelves for themselves. It is not about those who ran away from the hospital. It is not about those who continue to resist the health warnings and still go to work, school and attend big public gatherings.

But it's all about what one can do to ease the anxiety and restore faith in humanity. The Covid-19 can be a curse or blessing depends on how you would like to see it. For me, it is a blessing. Studies had shown that acts of kindness may help to counter negative social expectations.

Yes, making a deliberate attempt to brighten another person's day by doing something thoughtful, nice, and caring can make one feel less nervous because it gets the mind off oneself.

Examples of acts of kindness includes

- mowing a neighbour's lawn (ask permission if required)

- doing the dishes

- donating time, food, clothes, and money to charity

- putting hand sanitizers in public areas such as lifts

I believe that humanity will prevail. God has His plans for all. Let's be mindful to others and be responsible to oneself too. The more you give the more you will get.
