Let's Boosts Your Metabolism!

A client asked me, 'Coach, help me lose weight. Mind you, I like to eat but I like to exercise too.' The conversation went on to the types of food she eats and whether she drinks any sodas and alcohol. She became more intrigue when I started explaining about the metabolism that will affect her reaching her goals.

METABOLISM - What is metabolism?

Metabolism is the control of the body in creating energy and burning of energy from foods that are consumed. We rely on our metabolism in doing our daily activities such as breathing, thinking, blood circulating, and regulating temperature.

Genetics play the biggest role in metabolism but there are some variations among different ethnic groups.

There are some foods that can help to increase the metabolism but there are also some foods that decreases the metabolism.

Foods that boosts the metabolism

1. Avocado

Previously, I like my avocado juice mixed with some chocolate syrup. That made..bloated up. I decided to change it by eating the fruit with a wheat bread spread with peanut butter. If you’re trying to lose weight, be mindful of portion sizes. One quarter of an avocado has 80 calories and 8 grams of fat.

2. Tempeh (Probiotic Food)

A delicacy originated from Indonesia. If you get your on this food, treasure it. High in protein and fat, tempeh promotes satiety — a feeling of fullness. Since the soybeans it's made with are fermented, tempeh contains probiotics, which can be beneficial for gut health and may improve immunity. A combination of tempeh and hard boiled eggs can boosts your energy and lose the calories you want.

3. Chilli peppers

Studies show that eating spicy foods like chilli peppers may help speed up metabolism. I would recommend not to eat it raw but cook it with other food. Please do a self-check on your tolerant level to spicy food.

4. Beans

Beans are an excellent source of protein to keep you feeling satiated — and amino acids, the building blocks of protein, can help preserve muscle mass and thus burn more calories while your body is at rest. the fibre in beans helps to fill you up with fewer calories so you can go for a longer time between meals or eat less overall.

5. Whole grains

Whole grains contain fill-you-up fibre, are anti-inflammatory, and may be beneficial for weight management. Study participants who substituted whole grains for refined also had increased calorie loss during digestion.

6. Eggs - depends on how you cook it

Eggs are not only low in calories, but because they’re an excellent source of protein and some healthy fat, they stave off hunger.

Foods that slows down the metabolism

1. Refined grains

Refined grains like those found in processed, packaged foods, white bread, pasta, and rice can sabotage weight loss. Furthermore, refined grains contain empty calories, lack fiber, and can cause blood sugar spikes.

2. Sugary beverages

Sweetened beverages could slow down your metabolism. Eating a high-protein meal with a sugar-sweetened drink may negatively impact energy balance, reduce fat metabolism, and cause the body to store more fat.

3. Alcohol

Alcohol is loaded with calories, and when we drink it, we often don’t make the best choices when it comes to food. Since alcohol consumption also negatively affects blood sugar, you might crave sugary foods after a few glasses of wine and the next day feel unmotivated to exercise. The results of binge drinking and heavy drinking are closely linked to obesity.

4. Granola (debatable to some fitness gurus)

Although it’s often promoted as a health food, granola is high in calories and fat, and the high sugar content in most types can spike your blood sugar and make you feel hungrier.

5. Soybean oil

Soybean oil is high in calories and omega-6 fatty acids, which can promote inflammation and may contribute to weight gain. Swap soybean oil and other oils high in omega-6 fatty acids for olive oil or flaxseed oil, or eat fatty fish such as salmon. end of our convo, she treated me to some tempeh and eggs,

The conversation ended with her buying me some eggs and tempeh and for herself, she added some avocados. I can't wait to hear her results that will impact her upon taking the foods that she bought. As for me, it is giving me the results that I want.
