As we age wiser ( I do not feel like using the word 'older'), the onset of several diseases begin to appear and there will be changes to our bodies physically too. These changes can be slowed with proper food intake, a sound and practical physical activity or exercise programme, good sex (for married couples) and scheduled medical as well as dental check-ups are recommended. Make no mistake, men and women need sex to maintain balance in their life. However, the depletion of the testosterone (in men) and oestrogen (in women) can lower down the sexual drive due to the age factor. Here are some foods that I would recommend to help boost these hormones both in men and women.
Sweet potatoes for men
Sweet potatoes rich in healthy carbohydrates and a better alternative than your fries. Not only that it is high in fibre, it can also help to keep the 'hungry feeling' away. It also helps to reduce prostate cancer by 40% according to a study from Harvard School of Public Health.
Flex seeds for women
Flax seeds are one of the richest sources of oestrogen. It helps in lowering cholesterol levels in the body since they contain dietary fibre and omega-3 fatty acids. It is recommended that you add ground flax seeds as a topping on the oatmeal or breakfast cereal or add it to smoothies.

Brazil nuts for men and pistachios as well as walnuts for women.
Brazil nuts are high in the mineral boron. High intake of the mineral boron will increase the testosterone levels up to 28%. Pistachios and walnuts are excellent sources of oestrogen for women. Choose these snacks over the bag of chips. Just make sure you check with your doctor on your allergies to nuts, eh?
Soy for women (either in liquid or food form)
Soy products are known to boost the oestrogen levels in women. Some soy products include soy milk or soy yoghurt which can be eaten along with meals. Another soy product is tofu, which is made from soy milk and is a popular oestrogen boosting food.
Kale for men
This vegetable is high in iron and carbinol-3. It helps with the ladies in flushing the oestrogen in their bodies but also produces testosterone unimpeded in men.
Fruits such as strawberries and peaches for women
Strawberries can help to lower the risk of obesity and promote healthy skin and hair. Peaches can help to reduce the risk of cancer, stroke and other related heart diseases. These fruits can be eaten raw or as a topping for yoghurt. It can also be enjoyed with other fruits such as bananas and berries.
Egg yolks for men
My mom used to tell me to avoid consuming eggs consecutively. I shared her this information that egg yolks do have high level of cholesterol but it is the HDL (high density lipoprotein). It helps to jack up the T-production and boosts the sex drive in men. On that note, do take note on the preparation stage of the eggs.
Dry fruits for women
Dry fruits are another healthy addition. They have high nutrient levels and can certainly help to boost oestrogen levels in the women's bodies. Some specific dry fruits are dried apricots, prunes and dates. It can be consumed as a midday snack to add as a nutritional boost to any meals too.
Chia seeds for men
While flax seed is more potent for women, men are recommended to have chia seeds. With potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium all contributing to testosterone production, fertility and muscle growth, sprinkle on top of your morning oats to start your day with a T-boost.
There goes the list of foods that can help to boosts the hormones in both men and women. Hmm...are you still there? What are you waiting for? Get shopping and start boosting your testos and oestros. You can thank me later.
