What You Eat Matters

Have you ever experience the following symptoms?

1. Headache

2. Mood swings

3. Feeling of lightness

4. Confused and lethargic

5. Nervous

6. Stomach growling

7. Dissatisfied, temperamental and sad.

Of course, as humans, we are open to these experiences. My next question would be, "Which one of these 'human experiences' indicate hunger and require for the body to replenish?" If you answer, 'Yes, I think number 1 to 7 indicates hunger and requires replenishment." The truth is far from the fact. None of the experiences above show that we are hungry. Research had shown that these symptoms can actually disappear after a few weeks of healthy eating.

What is actually healthy eating?

Healthy eating can be attributed to healthy diet. There are many types of diet nowadays. These includes:-

- Paleo diet

This form of diet excludes all intake of sugar and dairy. A Paleo diet consists of fish, fowl, vegetables, fruits, nuts, oils, sweet potatoes, eggs and meat, so long as that meat is grass-fed and not grain-fed.

- Blood type diet

The premise of this diet attempts to match people with their common dietary needs based on their blood type. For example, individuals with type O blood are recommended to eat lots of food that are high in protein.

- Vegan diet

This diet is a vegetarian diet and it eliminates meat and animal products.

- South Beach diet

This diet was first introduced in 2003 and is based on the premise of changing one’s overall eating habits by balancing out one’s everyday diet. Certain carbohydrates are completely avoided. It does not eliminate carbohydrates altogether, but aims to educate dieters on which carbs to always avoid. The diet includes a selection of healthy fats, lean protein, as well as good carbs.

- Mediterranean diet

This is another kind of vegetable-heavy diet that avoids a lot of meat, but does not eliminate it altogether. This diet has been proven to help with depression, in addition to controlling blood sugar levels and helping with weight loss. The Mediterranean diet recommends the use of oil as much as possible and that means as an alternative to butter, salad dressings or marinades.

- Raw food diet

This is a diet that places a premium on eating uncooked and unprocessed foods. The diet eliminates the intake of any foods that have been pasteurised or produced with any kind of synthetics or additives.

On a personal note, I believe all types of diet are equally good and has its pros as well as cons. I think that one should consider all factors before embarking on these type of diets. Additionally, I feel that each meal that is consumed by us should have the right proportions of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and nutrients. In addition, it also must reflect your health goals.
