Is anxiety keeping you from doing your best personally and professionally? Do you have overwhelming fears in completing a task? Does your work stresses you a lot? These anxieties, worries, fears and stresses are common human experiences. However, if it affects your health, sleep and other areas of your life, it could be that one is suffering from mental health problem.
Mental health is includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how one thinks, feels and acts. Mental health is vital at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Many factors can contribute to the mental health of a person. There are:-
> Biological factors - genes
> Life experiences - trauma or abuse
> Family history of mental health problems
Here are some tell-tale signs that a person is suffering from mental health
> Eating or sleeping too little or too much
> Having low or no energy
> Feeling helpless or hopeless
> Smoking, drinking or doing drugs more than usual
> Thinking of harming oneself or others
> Experiencing severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships
Below are some suggestions that you can look to assist those who have mental health problems.
> Getting professional help
There are numerous psychiatrists who are willing to help you back on track.
> Connecting and/or helping others
Do volunteer or social work at an old folks home, orphanages, special schools and animal shelters.
> Staying positive
Start with being grateful with all the things you have. Write it down in Grateful Log Book.
> Getting physically active
Join a gym or exercise group or running group. Get yourself sweaty as sweat is your fat crying too.
> Getting enough sleep
Do not rely too much on sleeping pills. Turn off the handphone and use a low light in the bedroom. Meditate to your religious beliefs.
> Developing coping skills
Join a meditation class.
